Bismarckstraße: Roadway to be painted red
The roadway of Bismarckstraße between Schlossstraße and Neumarkt will be colored red after Whitsun. The red coloring is a political decision and an important part of the cycle priority route to Brand and Eilendorf.
The coloring work will begin on May 26 and is expected to last until June 5. It is very dependent on the weather. The road will be closed to motor vehicles and cyclists during this period.
Motor vehicles can reach the Frankenberger Viertel via Oppenhoffallee and Viktoriaallee. Cyclists have several options for getting past the roadworks. They can push their bicycles past the roadworks on the sidewalks. Alternatively, they can also use the detour route along Lothringerstrasse, Friedrichstrasse, Luisenstrasse, Viktoriaallee and Viktoriaallee in both directions. It is not necessary to cycle via Oppenhoffallee.
The red coloring of Bismarckstraße between Schlossstraße and Neumarkt marks the end of the first construction phase of the fundamental redesign of Bismarckstraße. This construction work was decided in 2024 and commissioned in 2025.
The second construction phase with three subsections will start at the beginning of June, initially on the section from Triebelsstraße to Viktoriaallee. This work is scheduled to take around three and a half months. This will be followed by the sections Viktoriaallee to the corner of Drimbornstraße and later the section Drimborn-, Bever- and Schenkendorfstraße. During this construction phase, cycle traffic will be diverted via Frankenberger Straße. Motor vehicle traffic will be routed via Oppenhoffallee.
According to current plans, the construction work on Bismarckstrasse should be completed in summer 2027.
