Excavators, shovels and trucks find a new sandpit
It took a long time for the sand toys from the Archimedean sandpit 2025 to find a new home - but the wait was worth it. Because in future, the children will be playing with the excavators, trucks and shovels at the still young municipal Montessori daycare center in Karlstraße in Aachen-Eilendorf. This new building, which will be officially opened in June, was deliberately chosen by those responsible in the KiTa and childcare department. "The new KiTa Karlstraße is a place where children can discover with joy, learn independently and grow in their personality. This sand toy invites children to explore and try things out. The donation will help to create a prepared play environment in the outdoor area and supplement the equipment in the facility. The daycare and childcare department is very pleased about STAWAG's annual commitment and that this daycare center is able to benefit from it this year," says Anita Vondermaßen, team leader of "Municipal Facilities" in the municipal department.
And it doesn't take long for the children to enthusiastically take possession of the "new" used toy. "Both Archimedes and Maria Montessori pursued the goal of strengthening and empowering people through their own discoveries and experiences. This pedagogical principle also shapes our everyday life at the municipal daycare facility, the Montessori Learning Center Karlstraße. We are therefore particularly pleased about the great sand toy from the Archimedean sandbox, which offers our children a wide range of opportunities for research, experimentation and creative play," says Nadia von Thenen, deputy director of the facility.
For Michaela Sprenger from Corporate Communications at STAWAG, who donates the toys for the Archimedean Sandpit every year, the dates in the daycare centers are always a highlight: "As a regional company, we feel closely connected to Aachen and its people. It was therefore important to us that the toys do not simply disappear into storage after the Archimedean Sandpit. When children in an Aachen daycare center continue to play, tinker and discover with it - that's the best part of this commitment for us."
