Referendum on the Olympics: If documents are missing, please let us know!
Should the city of Aachen take part in the bid for the Olympic and Paralympic Games? Citizens have until April 19 to cast their vote by postal ballot as to whether they are for or against Aachen's participation. The referendum will run until then.
The City of Aachen has sent voting documents to all eligible voters by March 29. If citizens have not yet received their voting documents, they can contact the electoral office during the usual opening hours on 0241/432-1600 or at any time by email at wahlen@mail.aachen.de.
Further information:
Voting will take place exclusively by letter. All eligible voters will receive their documents by March 29. They can cast their vote until April 19. The result will then be counted on this day, as in the whole of North Rhine-Westphalia. For the result to be valid, a quorum of 10 percent must be reached, so every vote counts!
Under the slogan "Our cities. Our Games.", 17 cities on the Rhine and Ruhr are bidding to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2036, 2040 or 2044. Due to the unique local infrastructure, equestrian sport and possibly soccer are to take place in Aachen. Internationally renowned as a stronghold of equestrian sport, the CHIO and the World Equestrian Games show that the imperial city is a stage for world sport.
