Back from hibernation: the first Öch fountains are bubbling again
"Water march!": These days, the first fountains in Aachen are back in operation and are delighting many people with their water features. The Puppenbrunnen fountain, for example, has been bubbling away again for a few days now. The fountain team from the city's building management department is currently working flat out to bring the 65 or so municipal fountains out of hibernation. This lasts roughly from October to Easter.
There is good news from Haaren: After extensive restoration work by the workshop of the City of Aachen's building management department, the Germanus fountain is already standing in the shadow of the church and embedded in the recently redesigned church surroundings. The final connection work is still to be completed so that the popular fountain in Haaren will soon be back in operation. The popular stream at Annuntiatenbach / Lindenplatz will also be put back into operation this week - in this case under the responsibility of Regionetz.
Aachen's largest fountain on Europaplatz will also be shooting up its water fountains again this spring. The final work on it will be completed in the coming days so that it will probably be running before Easter. The commissioning of some other installations, such as the Kugelbrunnen, the fountain on Monheimsallee and the Mariensäule, has been postponed due to necessary repairs.
The fountains in the Elisengarten (Elisenbrunnen and Kreislauf des Geldes) and in front of the Neues Kurhaus work completely independently of frosty temperatures. These fountains are supplied with warm thermal water and can therefore also be operated during the winter months.
