New toilet in Westpark in use before the summer season
Now the time has come: just in time for the summer season, the toilet in Westpark, long awaited by politicians and citizens alike, is ready and can now be used free of charge. It is designed as a barrier-free unisex toilet and is located directly in the entrance area on Gartenstraße. Demand for a public toilet in Westpark has been particularly high over the years. The park is particularly busy in summer and the large sunbathing lawn is often used as a barbecue area. Until now, there has only been one urinal here, which will remain in place for the time being. The new facility is cleaned once a day. Depending on how much it is used, an increase in the cleaning interval will be considered. The façade is still gleaming white, but will be given a colorful makeover by a street artist working with children and young people.
The new toilet facility in Westpark costs around 275,000 euros for a four-year lease - including maintenance and cleaning. There were also one-off costs for connections, foundations and paving work amounting to a good 40,000 euros. During the four-year contract period, the system remains the property of the manufacturer, who assumes the warranty for it. After that, it will become the property of the city. A new maintenance contract will then also be concluded.
Public toilets in parks
There are public toilets in parks in Kaiser-Friedrich-Park, Elisengarten, Ferberpark on Kapellenstraße and Brander Marktplatz - and now in Westpark.
Concept in progress
Based on the knowledge gained to date, the administration is currently developing a concept for public toilets that will also include cooperation concepts, for example with restaurants. The concept will be presented to politicians in the second half of 2026 as a basis for decision-making, in which the relevant framework conditions and the specific implementation steps are clearly presented.
The city council hopes that the new toilet will further enhance the attractiveness and conservation of the park and asks all users to keep the facility clean and tidy.
