Local Politics for the Week of June 29 through July 5
The local government calendar features six meetings on various topics next week. Among other things, a joint meeting of the Aachen-Laurensberg District Council and the Aachen-Mitte District Council is scheduled. In addition, the Planning Committee and the General and Finance Committee will meet.
Tuesday, June
30: The meeting of the Aachen Municipal Services Operations Committee will begin at 5:00 p.m. in the Municipal Services meeting room on Madrider Ring. The agenda includes a report on the Aachen Municipal Services’ first quarter of 2026, a data collection on street cleaning and waste generation, and a report on the 2025/2026 winter maintenance operations.
At the Nature Conservation Advisory Board meeting, the chairs will report on public participation cases starting at 5:00 p.m. in the Campus meeting room in the administration building on Maria-Theresia-Allee. The agenda also includes announcements from the administration.
Wednesday, July
1: The General and Finance Committee will meet at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber at Aachen City Hall. The committee will decide on the allocation of funds under the State and Local Infrastructure Financing Act. Politicians will also discuss the continuation of the subsidized staff position for coordinating international partnership work with Cape Town and Chernihiv, as well as the repeal of the resolution to establish a municipal housing construction company and the creation of a new administrative unit called “Housing Construction.”
At 5:30 p.m., a joint meeting of the Aachen-Laurensberg District Council and the Aachen-Mitte District Council will begin in the meeting room of Schönau Castle on Schönauer Allee. The district councils will discuss the “Campus West” zoning plan, focusing in particular on public and official participation.
Immediately following this, the Aachen-Laurensberg District Council will continue its meeting at the same location at 6:30 p.m. The council will discuss RegioNetz’s construction projects in the district, the repainting of road markings on Roermonder Straße between Schurzelter Straße and Rathausstraße, and the land-use plan “AACHEN*2030 – Sportpark Soers/Mitte.”
Thursday, July 2:
The Planning Committee will discuss the Integrated Urban Development Concept (ISEK) “Zukunft Forst” starting at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber. The administration will present a progress report on current and planned projects in Aachen-Richterich. In addition, the committee will provide the City Council with recommendations on various planning proposals, including the “Campus West” zoning plan.
