Local politics during the week of June 15–21
Local politics has a number of topics on the agenda from various committees and bodies for the coming week: issues ranging from financial matters and conceptual projects to social issues will be discussed and decided upon. A special meeting of the Planning Committee will also take place before Wednesday’s council meeting—however, this meeting is closed to the public.
Tuesday, June 16
The meeting of the Aachen Event Management Committee will take place at 5:00 p.m. at the Neues Kurhaus on Monheimsallee. An interim financial report for the first quarter of 2026 will be presented there, along with an explanation.
Wednesday, June 17
The Aachen City Council will meet at 5 p.m. in the council chamber at Aachen City Hall. Topics on the agenda include the current budget freeze and amendments to the weekly market regulations. The council will also discuss the establishment of a youth council.
Thursday, June 18
The Senior Citizens' Council will meet at 10 a.m. in the Forum of the Aachen Adult Education Center (VHS) on Peterstraße. First on the agenda is the amendment to the election regulations for the 2027 senior citizens’ elections. Next, the “ReGe Pflege” project from AOK Rheinland/Hamburg will be presented, followed by reports on all senior-related topics from the committees.
Finally, the Committee on Social Affairs and Demographics will meet next week at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber. Among other things, members will be briefed on the current status of the implementation of the Integrated Concept for Attractiveness and Safety. In addition, the “Querbeet” initiative by the Caritasverband für die Regionen Aachen-Stadt und Aachen-Land e.V. will be presented and explained in detail. Also up for discussion is a motion to increase funding from the Armenfonds Foundation to support the railway station mission in 2026.
