"Sport in the Park 2026": Over 100 hours per week and 22 parks
Aachen is sweating again: This year's edition of "Sport in the Park" starts next weekend - on Saturday, June 6 to be precise. For six weeks, until Friday, July 17, there will once again be more than 100 hours of activities per week in 22 Aachen parks and green spaces throughout the city. From Westpark to the park at the old cemetery in Aachen-Haaren, from the park at Schönau Castle in Aachen-Richterich to the green space at the market school in Aachen-Brand and of course everywhere in between, for example in Aachen-Eilendorf, at the spa parks in Burtscheid or on Monheimsallee, in Frankenberger Park, at Büchel, on Talstraße, in Kennedypark or at Hangeweiher and, and, and.
Just as diverse as the parks and green spaces are the 50 or so sports activities offered by the 29 sports clubs and 20 other institutions and trainers at "Sport in the Park": Sport for healthy joints is included, as well as aikido, various yoga classes, functional fitness, Pilates, dancing, mountain biking, capoeira, kickboxing and Thai boxing and much more. Whether young or old, beginner or experienced athlete: people of all ages and fitness levels will find the right offer in the open air. "I am delighted that we are once again able to offer more than 100 free exercise classes per week with 'Sport in the Park' this year. Together with numerous Aachen sports clubs and other exercise providers, we are bringing sport to the people in our city's parks in an uncomplicated, open and direct way. The fact that even more clubs are taking part this year is a strong sign of the growing importance of the project," says Björn Jansen, Chairman of the Stadtsportbund Aachen, who is delighted that there are even more clubs than in 2025.
The City of Aachen as a
partnerJansen continued: “I would also like to extend my special thanks to the City of Aachen, as well as our partners and sponsors STAWAG and Sparkasse Aachen, who make this diverse program possible.” Lara Egyptien from the City of Aachen’s Sports Department returns the praise: “We are delighted to have such a dedicated and reliable partner as the City Sports Association on board, which implements ‘Sport im Park’ with such commitment. As the City of Aachen and a partner, we are of course happy to do our part. The event has become an important fixture in the annual sports calendar: accessible in the best sense of the word. And the City would also like to expressly thank the sponsors, without whom ‘Sport im Park’ could not be organized in this way.”
Sponsors support sports, health, and a sense of community
. For Norbert Laufs, CEO of Sparkasse, this is part of the bank’s social commitment: “Sparkasse Aachen has been supporting sports in the region for years. We are proud to partner with the City Sports Association to make the ‘Summer Open-Air Sports Experience’ possible for all sports enthusiasts. Physical activity not only improves health but also strengthens the sense of community in our city.” Eva Wußing, Head of “Communications and Brand” at STAWAG, is equally convinced: “Physical activity brings people together and brings our city to life. With ‘Sport im Park,’ we are working together to create a simple and free program that motivates many people to get active and try new sports. We at STAWAG are very happy to support this initiative.”
