Reserve, unlock, and ride off to daycare, the supermarket, or just for fun. LaRa, the free cargo bike rental system, makes it possible. With the City of Aachen’s 25 cargo bikes, users can always get around town stress-free with their kids and all their gear. No hunting for parking, no traffic jams, no stress.

The electric cargo bikes can be rented free of charge at 20 stations throughout the city. They have plenty of storage space for luggage or groceries and come with two child seats. Many even have a rain cover. Depending on the location, the cargo bikes can be rented for up to 24 hours.

In Aachen, there are now more than 3,000 people who have registered with the LaRa rental system and can use the city’s cargo bikes. In 2025, more than 10,000 trips were made on these electrically assisted bicycles. And the city hopes that many more people will take advantage of this service.

That is why the city is now launching another advertising campaign for its cargo bike rental system. With their new look, the city’s cargo bikes will now be even easier to spot on Aachen’s streets than before.

Community Project
: The cargo bike rental program is a community project run by the city government and interested members of the community. The city provides the cargo bikes and handles their regular maintenance. Committed individuals have taken on sponsorships for the 20 stations in the city’s neighborhoods and the cargo bikes located there. The sponsors usually live near their respective stations. They charge the batteries and report any damage to the city.

The city is looking for more people to help run the cargo bike rental service. This applies primarily to the areas of Hörn, Kullen, Soers, and within the Grabenring. Cargo Bike Training: For anyone
who is still unsure whether they can ride a cargo bike safely, the city offers cargo bike training sessions. The next training session is scheduled for September 17 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the traffic training center at Hohenstaufenallee 3. Anyone wishing to participate is asked to register at fahrrad-in-aachen@mail.aachen.de.
