Record Numbers: 17,000 Participants at “Sport im Park”

A new record has been set: Around 17,000 participants gathered for “Sport im Park” 2026. The Aachen City Sports Association, in cooperation with the City of Aachen, once again organized this year’s free event series, which once again expanded its reach compared to the previous year. Over the past six weeks, the event impressively reaffirmed its status as Aachen’s largest free outdoor sports and fitness program. Björn Jansen, chairman of the Aachen City Sports Association, offers an extremely positive assessment: “Our clubs are the backbone of sports in Aachen. Day after day, they do valuable work for health, integration, and social cohesion, and it is precisely this strength that is evident at ‘Sport im Park.’”

At a total of 21 parks and green spaces, “Sport im Park”—in collaboration with instructors from 26 Aachen sports clubs—invited people of all ages to try out a wide variety of sports and exercise activities with no obligation. Together with fitness studios, yoga instructors, and other partners, a varied program was created that impressively reflected the diversity of sports in Aachen. The number of locations also grew this year, with the Kronenberg and the Tivoli forecourt being added. Once again, the yoga sessions in Frankenberger Park and the dance classes in Westpark were particularly popular, with up to 90 people participating in some sessions.

Praise for the tremendous dedication of everyone involved
. The City of Aachen is once again supporting the event series this year through close collaboration between the Sports and Communications and City Marketing departments and the City Sports Association.

Petra Prömpler, head of the Sports Department for the City of Aachen, emphasizes:
“‘Sport im Park’ impressively demonstrates how low-threshold physical activity programs can reach people of all generations. This transforms our parks and green spaces into places for physical activity, social interaction, and community. The fact that the program has expanded again this year is thanks to the tremendous dedication of everyone involved.”

Special thanks go to Theresa Hirtz, project manager at the City Sports Association, the 26 participating sports clubs, their coaches, and all other partners who organized this diverse program with great dedication.

The Aachen City Sports Association and the City of Aachen would also like to thank Sparkasse Aachen and STAWAG. Through their support, both sponsors are making an important contribution to ensuring that “Sport im Park” can continue to be offered free of charge in the future and that physical activity, health, and community in Aachen are strengthened in the long term.

Completely relaxed: After yoga in Frankenberger Park, everyone is in high spirits.
Sun Salutation in the Park: The yoga session in Frankenberger Park was once again a highlight of “Sport im Park.”
