Local Politics for the Week of July 13–19
There are still three events on the local government calendar for the week before the summer break. The meeting of the Committee on the Environment and Climate Protection scheduled for Tuesday, July 14, has been canceled.
Tuesday, July
14: The Culture, Theater, and Adult Education Center (VHS) Operations Committee will meet at 5:00 p.m. in the VHS Forum on Peterstraße. The meeting will discuss across-the-board budget cuts for municipal operations as part of the 2026 budget freeze. In addition, the Adult Education Center’s 02/2026 program and the report on the 2026 Schrittmacher Festival will be presented.
Wednesday, July
15: The Citizens’ Forum meeting, held as a Children’s Forum, will take place at 11 a.m. at the Super C building at RWTH Aachen University. The children will discuss four suggestions and complaints in accordance with Section 24 of the Municipal Code of North Rhine-Westphalia. The topics include safe routes to school for all elementary school children in Aachen, improving the traffic situation around the GGS Richterich, installing a sunshade in the schoolyard of the Karl-Kuck-Schule, and a “friendship bench” for the KGS Hanbruch.
The Aachen City Council will meet at 5 p.m. in the council chamber at Aachen City Hall. Topics on the agenda include adjustments to the department allocation plan and job postings for deputy mayors. In addition, the City Council will make decisions regarding the development of the eastern part of the city center and the “Campus West” and “Im Ginster” zoning plans.
