With the vacation season approaching and the high summer temperatures of the past few weeks, many Aachen residents are once again flocking to the Hangeweiher outdoor pool this year. Following the recently completed renovation—which included a new building and ticket office area—the City of Aachen and the team led by pool manager Torsten Liebl are generally very pleased with the high level of interest in the outdoor pool. The staff is working hard to ensure that every visitor has a wonderful time at the pool.

Unfortunately, there has recently been an excessive and, at times, disorderly crowd during the hot days, which has spoiled the swimming experience for many guests. For safety reasons, we had to suspend admission at certain times. Visitors failed to follow staff instructions; in some cases, this led to threats and unauthorized entry onto the premises. Such behavior is unacceptable. The safety of pool staff and guests at the outdoor pool is always our top priority.

In light of these incidents, the city of Aachen feels compelled to take further steps to ensure the safety of everyone involved. Therefore, starting tomorrow, Friday, July 10, a security service will be deployed at the Hangeweiher outdoor pool in addition to the pool staff.

“The safety of our visitors is our top priority. We want everyone to enjoy swimming without any worries, and we sincerely thank everyone for following the rules. Anyone who wants to take a dip with friends or family should be able to do so without a care—with joy and confidence in our ability to coexist safely,” emphasizes Mayor Dr. Michael Ziemons.

An urgent request to all swimmers: To ensure everyone’s safety and to enjoy a pleasant outdoor swimming experience together, please follow the instructions of the pool staff without exception.

Up-to-date information on the swimming pools and their hours of operation: The City of Aachen’s Sports Department asks all visitors to check the City of Aachen’s sports portal at www.aachen.de/schwimmen before visiting any of the city’s indoor or outdoor swimming pools to ensure there are no restrictions or closures at the respective facilities.
