Fourth “Long Table of Diversity” Brings Many People Together at Katschhof
Aachen celebrates diversity in action: Amid perfect summer weather, the Katschhof once again became a gathering place for encounters and dialogue on Saturday, July 4. Mayor Dr. Michael Ziemons had invited all residents of Aachen to the fourth “Long Table of Diversity.” Numerous visitors accepted the invitation and together sent a strong message of respect, solidarity, and diverse coexistence.
Mayor Dr. Michael Ziemons welcomed the guests and emphasized the importance of an open and supportive urban community. People of all generations, cultures, and backgrounds came together to eat, engage in conversation, and make new connections. With music, a varied stage program, and numerous hands-on activities and informational booths, the Katschhof once again became a lively gathering place.
A special highlight of the event was the presentation of Aachen’s “Diversity Award.” With this award, the City of Aachen and the Committee for Equal Opportunity and Integration recognized the outstanding commitment of individuals, groups, organizations, and associations that work to promote equal opportunity, participation, and respectful coexistence. This year’s award recipients are the Kingz Corner Youth Center, the House for Families run by Evangelical Family Education Aachen, Sophie Orentlikher and Mohammed Arfan Ashmawi, and the Aachen Peace Run.
For the first time this year, the city’s “Integration through Sport 2026” award was also presented as a separate category within the “Diversity Award.” This award recognized sports clubs and initiatives whose dedication makes an important contribution to integration, social participation, and a diverse community. This year’s recipients were “Eastside Boxing,” the “Move – your – Future – Bike Workshops,” the Inclusive Table Soccer League, and the Erste Große Karnevalsgesellschaft 1954 e.V. Eilendorf.
The “Market of Opportunities” was also very well received. Numerous clubs, organizations, and initiatives showcased their work and invited visitors to engage with them. The event was complemented by culinary specialties and a variety of hands-on activities, which rounded out the colorful program.
