Local politics in the week from January 26 to February 1

The city council, the highest body in local politics, meets in the middle of the week. The planned meetings of the election review committee and the nature conservation advisory board are canceled.

Tuesday, January 27,
The Citizens' Forum begins at 5 p.m. in the Council Chamber of Aachen City Hall. Among other things, two citizens' motions will be discussed: The traffic calming of Wilmersdorfer Straße in Aachen and the city-wide participatory campaign to unseal private areas ("Tegelwippen"). The Citizens' Forum will also discuss the further development of the Aachen Citizens' Council, particularly with regard to finding topics and procedural structure. The supplementary bill 2025 is also on the agenda. The aim is to strengthen the effectiveness of the committee and link the topics discussed more closely to ongoing political decision-making processes.

Wednesday, January 28,
The Aachen City Council will also be meeting from 5 p.m. in the Council Chamber. One of the topics to be discussed is the referendum in which the people of Aachen can decide on the bid for the Olympic and Paralympic Games on the Rhine and Ruhr. Also on the agenda: the annual financial statements and management report of the municipal building management company for the 2024 financial year and the Liebigstrasse/Metzgerstrasse development plan.

Thursday, January 29,
The meeting of the Culture, Theatre and Adult Education Committee will be held from 5 p.m. in the administration building on Mozartstraße, room 207. Among other things, the committee will discuss exhibition and marketing planning for the Ludwig Forum for International Art, the Suermondt-Ludwig Museum and the Centre Charlemange. The focus is on the year 2026 and the time after that. The event concept for the music shell in the Kurpark and the business plan for cultural operations this year are further items on the agenda.
