Area affected by the evacuation
In coordination with the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service, an area within a radius of 400 meters around the explosive ordnance will be cleared today, January 22, starting at 9 a.m. following yesterday's discovery of a World War II bomb in Franzstraße.
The following streets will be closed from 9 a.m: Aachen-Münchener-Platz, Alexianergraben, Alter Posthof, An den Frauenbrüdern, Aureliusstraße, Bahnhofplatz, Bahnhofstraße, Beethovenstraße, Borngasse, Boxgraben, Burtscheider Straße, Franzstraße, Friedlandstraße, Hubertusstraße, Im Mariental, Kapuzinergraben, Karmeliterstraße, Kasernenstraße, Kleinmarschierstraße, Krakaustraße, Lagerhausstraße, Leonhardstraße, Leydelstraße, Marienplatz, Matthiashofstraße, Mörgensstraße, Mozartstraße, Prinzenhofstraße, Reumontstraße, Römerstraße, Stephanstraße, Südstraße, Theaterplatz, Wallstraße, Zollamtstraße
The city of Aachen recommends avoiding the area or taking a wide detour around it
Following the evacuation, the bomb is defused. Around 6,200 people are affected. They will be informed personally. The business area of the Tivoli, Krefelder Straße 205, will be available as emergency accommodation for affected residents from 9 am. ASEAG will be using special buses to pick up people from the Normaluhr bus stop (on Wilhelmstraße towards Kaiserplatz) and the bus station and take them to Tivoli.
As soon as the bomb has been defused - probably in the early afternoon - the city of Aachen will inform all those affected that they can return to their homes.
The city of Aachen is asking residents who have questions about the evacuation to visit www.aachen.de or the city's social media channels to find out about the current status. It is also possible to call the Call Aachen hotline on 0241 510051.
