Explosive ordnance found in Franzstraße:
An area around the Marschiertor must be evacuated

During work today, January 21, an American aircraft bomb weighing 250 kilograms was found on a building site at Franzstraße 58. In coordination with the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service, an area within a radius of 400 meters around the bomb will be evacuated from 9 a.m. on the morning of 22 January. Following the evacuation, the bomb will be defused. Around 6,200 people are affected. They will be informed personally. The main railway station and the railroad line are also in the evacuation area.

The Gymnasium St. Leonhard and the Grundschule am Fischmarkt will remain closed. Distance learning will take place for secondary school students. The St. Marien daycare center in Reumontstraße will also remain closed.

The business area of the Tivoli, Krefelder Straße 205, will be available as emergency accommodation for affected residents from 9 am. ASEAG will be operating special buses from 9 a.m., picking people up at the Normaluhr bus stop (on Wilhelmstraße towards Kaiserplatz) and the bus station and taking them to Tivoli. Parking is available at the Tivoli.

As soon as the bomb has been defused - probably in the early afternoon - the city of Aachen will inform all those affected.

The city of Aachen is asking residents who have questions about the evacuation to visit www.aachen.de or the city's social media channels to find out about the current status. It is also possible to call the Call Aachen hotline on 0241 510051. The hotline will be manned until 11.30 p.m. on January 21 and from 6 a.m. on January 22.

The city of Aachen recommends avoiding the area or taking a wide detour. The ASEAG buses will take detour. Information on the detour can be found on the website. Trains will no longer stop at the main station from 9 am.

The Hackländerstrasse, Lagerhausstrasse, Mozartstrasse and Aureliusstrasse 2 and 30 administration buildings will be closed on Thursday, January 22.
