Tree care, felling and replanting in the Elisengarten
Next week (January 26 to 30), the city's tree maintenance team will be looking after 25 trees in the Elisengarten. Among other things, the team will remove dead wood and restore the clearance profile.
In addition, a hornbeam in the upper area of the Elisengarten has to be felled. The immense soil compaction around the 57-year-old tree meant that it could no longer draw sufficient water from the ground. The tree's fine roots gradually died off due to the lack of water. In spring 2025, the tree inspection team noticed that the beech tree suddenly dried out during budding. As the multi-stem hornbeam is now completely dead, it is no longer safe for traffic and must be removed.
After felling, the tree planting team, accompanied by an archaeological office, will dig into the roots at two locations. After the excavations, the soil can be replaced there and tree substrate for new trees can be installed. The employees of the municipal services are expected to plant the prepared sites in February. Due to the very cold weather, it is not yet possible to deliver the trees from the nurseries.
