Maintenance work on Krefelder Strasse and Salierallee

From today until probably the end of January, the green maintenance and tree care teams from Aachener Stadtbetrieb will be carrying out maintenance work in the flowerbed areas of the central island on Krefelder Straße. This concerns the area between the junctions of Merowingerstraße/Passstraße and Soerser Weg. "Many of the trees and shrubs in the street area are getting on in years and are overgrown, meaning they are dying," explains Michael Blankenheim, Head of Urban Greenery and Districts at Aachener Stadtbetrieb. "This can create hazards for road users, which we prevent as part of our duty to ensure road safety."

The areas are then upgraded over the course of the year with new perennial plantings and flower bulbs. "We select the new plants with the nature of the area in mind and pay particular attention to the diversity of the plants in order to provide a habitat for various animals." The planting carefully selected by the experts provides protection, food and habitat for numerous insects. Two dead trees will also be removed in connection with the upgrading of the beds. Replanting is planned for the 2026/2027 planting season.

Another maintenance measure will also begin this week on Salierallee. Along the road, a few privet bushes that protrude into the traffic area will be removed. The new solitary shrubs will be replanted in the appropriate places so that there will be no more traffic obstructions in future.

All measures are coordinated with the city's environment and climate department.
