Disposing of recyclables: now it's easy when shopping!

Get rid of scrap and shop with a good feeling: A new service from the City of Aachen's economic development department in cooperation with Aachener Stadtbetrieb helps with this. From February, the recyclables mobile will be making regular stops at supermarket parking lots. Citizens can conveniently combine the collection of recyclables with their shopping. The low-threshold drop-off option close to home makes it easier for working people and people with limited mobility in particular to access professional recycling. The aim of the service is to further simplify the separate collection of recyclables for residents and to return the recyclables to the industrial production cycle.

In 2026, the mobile recycling unit will be parked in the parking lots of the respective supermarkets on the following dates, from 11 am to 2 pm:

  • Kaufland on Vaalser Straße,
    on Tuesdays on 10.02., 14.04., 09.06., 13.10. and 08.12.2026
  • Hit Sütterlin am Tivoli,
    on Wednesdays on 18.02., 15.04., 17.06. and 16.12.2026
  • Aldi on Werkstraße in Oberforstbach,
    on Thursdays on 19.02., 16.04., 18.06., 15.10. and 17.12.2026

"The Aachener Stadtbetrieb's recyclables mobile is a tried-and-tested service that prevents the incorrect and illegal disposal of recyclables. With additional trips and stops at supermarket parking lots, we are strengthening the sustainable circular economy and making an important contribution to achieving the city of Aachen's climate targets," says Dieter Begaß, Head of the Economic Development Department of the City of Aachen.

The following recyclables can be handed in at the recyclables mobile:

  • Small electrical appliances
  • Accumulators and batteries (no vehicle or industrial batteries)
  • Energy saving lamps
  • Printer cartridges
  • Plastic and metal waste (no packaging)
  • Used textiles
  • CDs/DVDs
  • Cork
  • Wood

The new service is just one of many components in the City of Aachen's "E6" project, which is co-financed by the European innovation funding program Interreg North West Europe.Die Abkürzung E6 steht für „Ecosystems for Extended Lifetime of End-of-Use Electrical and Electronic Equipment“. The project aims to create ecosystems for an extended lifespan for used electronic devices. The initiative is creating new structures for a sustainable circular economy in Aachen: electrical appliances are collected, repaired and reused or their recyclable materials are fed back into production.

In this way, the project makes an important contribution to conserving resources and reducing the city's carbon footprint.
