The City of Aachen Invites You: First Market Dialogue on the Future of Public Procurement
- The city of Aachen is bringing together the business community, associations, and government agencies to discuss sustainable public procurement.
- The focus is on the opportunities and challenges of sustainable and economically viable procurement—particularly in the construction sector.
- The first Aachen Market Dialogue will take place on Wednesday, September 9, at the Ludwig Forum.
Municipalities are key drivers and economic forces in a region. For example, they construct—often at a cost of millions—buildings such as schools, daycare centers, or specialized facilities like fire stations and emergency response centers; they renovate roads and redesign public squares. To do so, they award contracts to tradespeople and businesses. This so-called public procurement is a key lever for translating future-oriented issues such as sustainability, innovation, and climate protection into concrete administrative action. At the same time, companies and public contracting authorities—such as the City of Aachen—face the challenge of working together to implement new requirements in a way that is practical and feasible.
With the first Aachen Market Dialogue, the City of Aachen therefore aims to create a forum for early dialogue with the business community and industry associations. The focus is on the question: How can public procurement be structured in the future so that it is economically sound, sustainable, and future-proof? Mayor Dr. Michael Ziemons invites companies, associations, and other interested parties to join on Wednesday, September 9, to share their perspectives and discuss the future of public procurement together. The event will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. (doors open at 4:00 p.m.) at the Ludwig Forum for International Art, Jülicher Straße 97–109, in Aachen. Registration is open until Monday, August 31, via the following link: 1st Aachen Market Dialogue — The Future of Public Procurement Tickets, Wednesday, September 9 • 5:00 PM – 7:30 PM | Eventbrite
The Market Dialogue focuses in particular on the construction sector. Among other things, it addresses the question of what requirements and developments lie ahead for companies and public contracting authorities, and where common opportunities for sustainable procurement are emerging. In addition to inspiring insights, the event features a panel discussion as well as ample opportunity for personal exchange and networking.
