Direct engagement with the public remains a top priority for Mayor Dr. Michael Ziemons. That is why, starting in August, a new dialogue initiative will be launched for the first time at Aachen’s weekly markets. Together with the district mayors and city administration staff, the mayor will visit various weekly markets in the city’s districts and cordially invite all citizens to engage in personal conversation.

The first weekly market discussions will take place on Wednesday, August 19, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the weekly market in Kronenberg, Johannes-Ernst-Platz; on Thursday, August 20, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the weekly market in Eilendorf, Severinusplatz, and on Friday, August 21, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the weekly market in Haaren, Haarener Gracht.

Weekly markets are central gathering places in the city’s neighborhoods and provide an ideal setting for casual interaction. Without having to register, residents can share their questions, suggestions, and ideas, raise issues affecting their neighborhood or the city as a whole, and engage in conversation with the mayor. Whether the topics are current projects, personal concerns, or local political issues—these dialogues provide a space for open discussion.

“Our weekly markets are much more than just places to shop—they are vibrant gathering spots in our neighborhoods where people strike up conversations and experience a sense of community. That’s exactly where we want to engage in direct dialogue. These personal conversations provide valuable insights and help us incorporate residents’ concerns even more effectively into our work,” says the mayor.
