• The Aachen Fire Department responded to 70 calls on Monday due to the stormy weather.

The storm and heavy rain event yesterday, Monday, August 3, which was very localized, affected parts of the Aachen city area in the late afternoon and early evening. The Aachen City Public Works Department is currently conducting special inspections for visible damage in the Aachen-Mitte district. The inspections are being carried out jointly by the departments responsible for parks, sports fields, cemeteries, and playgrounds. The City Services Department is also compiling reports of fallen and damaged trees from across the entire city. The fire department has already reported 37 instances of fallen or uprooted trees. In addition, residents and city employees are reporting further damage through all communication channels. So far, there have not been enough reports from the outlying districts to warrant special inspections there.

Fire Department Calls: Due to thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds and heavy rain that lasted into the evening, the Aachen Fire Department responded to 70 calls throughout the city. Most of the calls involved fallen trees, fallen branches, and other hazardous situations caused by the storm. The operations focused on clearing traffic obstructions and securing hazardous areas. As of now, no injuries have been reported. In addition to the professional fire department, the volunteer fire department was also on the scene.

Take Extra Caution in Parks and
Green Spaces: Teams from Aachen’s municipal services are currently working around the clock to inspect all public green spaces and parks, playgrounds and sports fields, as well as street trees. Until the inspections and cleanup work on all areas and trees are completed in the coming days, visitors to parks, sports fields, and playgrounds should continue to exercise extra caution.
