Elisenbrunnen: Bus stops in front of the Sparkasse to be relocated
From April 27, 2026, at 9 a.m., there will be some changes at the bus stops at the Elisenbrunnen in front of the main building of Aachener Sparkasse. This is necessary due to the renovation of the building on Friedrich-Wilhelm-Platz. Construction work is starting now and is expected to last until spring 2028.
Bus stop 1 in front of the Sparkasse main building will be relocated toward Wirichsbongardstraße, to the spot where bus stops 2 and 5 are currently located. At the new bus stop 1, passengers will have access to an electronic schedule display and a bus shelter.
Stop 2 will be relocated toward the bus terminal on Peterstraße, in front of buildings 2 through 16. A 40-meter-long temporary stop has been set up there. It is accessible directly from the sidewalk or via ramps and features a 16-centimeter-high curb. This allows passengers to board and alight with minimal barriers. A passenger shelter and an electronic schedule display cannot be installed there during the construction period.
The previous cab rank at this location was relocated a few weeks ago in the direction of the bus station in the section between the passage to the Blondelstraße parking garage and Komphausbadstraße. In Peterstraße, the direction of the bus lane in the middle of the road between the junctions with Büchel and Ursulinerstraße has also been reversed due to the new replacement stop. This means that buses heading in the direction of the bus yard can pass the buses parked at the bus stop.
Stop 5 for the sightseeing buses will be relocated to the remaining vacant section of the former Stop 1, between the construction site and the crosswalk near the Elisengalerie.
