Funding for energy-saving measures in buildings will not be continued - consultations will continue to be financed
- Funding for energy-saving measures in buildings will not be continued in 2026.
- The consulting services offered by altbau plus will remain unchanged.
- Applications from 2025 will continue to be reviewed and processed.
Over the past five years, the city of Aachen has voluntarily supported energy-saving refurbishment measures in buildings with subsidies, thereby supplementing the federal subsidy for efficient buildings (BEG) in a targeted manner. This has been flanked by a comprehensive range of advice on energy-efficient building refurbishment provided by the altbau plus association, which is co-financed by the City of Aachen. As part of the budget discussions, the city council decided on March 11, 2026 to discontinue the supplementary funding for energy-saving measures in buildings as part of the climate protection measures of the city's Integrated Climate Protection Concept (IKSK) in this and subsequent years. The advice provided by altbau plus will continue unchanged.
Open applications received by December 31, 2025 will still be funded with budget funds from 2025 if the decision is positive. The processing of open applications from 2025 is in the final phase and applicants will receive a funding decision in a timely manner if the review is positive. However, applications submitted after December 31, 2025 can no longer be considered.
Previous funding notices remain valid
All funding notices from previous years remain valid. The funds for payment are reserved accordingly and will continue to be paid out once the measures have been completed. The deadlines specified in the guidelines must be adhered to and the required evidence must be submitted for verification. These can be found at www.aachen.de/altbau, under "Disbursement and conditions of funding".
Facts about building subsidies
With the "Energy-saving measures in buildings" funding program, the City of Aachen has been providing targeted support for refurbishment measures on building envelopes and building technology since March 2021. The municipal offer thus supplemented the federal funding for efficient buildings (BEG) and was regularly adapted to ensure good interaction and a broader range of funding.
A particular focus was on the additional promotion of sustainable insulation materials for renovation measures. During the funding period, 1,725 applications were submitted and funding amounting to around 11.3 million euros was approved, supporting investments of around 110 million euros. The funding was part of the city administration's ICSK and aimed at accelerating the heat transition and the refurbishment of the non-urban housing stock.
The extensive range of advice offered by altbau plus and the neighborhood-specific advice on energy-efficient building refurbishment will continue to be available to citizens free of charge.
