Meeting of the citizens' forum
The next meeting of the Citizens' Forum will take place next Tuesday, September 9, at 6 p.m. in the Council Chamber of Aachen Town Hall. Four citizens' motions are on the agenda. The topics range from road safety and urban design to issues of social coexistence.
A citizens' petition from the Frankenberger Viertel district calls for additional crosswalks on Oppenhoffallee. According to the applicants, crossing the busy road is particularly dangerous for children, elderly people and cyclists. The applicants refer to the Frankenberger Viertel framework plan from 2008, which already provides for additional crossing options. Many people currently use footpaths on the central reservation of Oppenhoffallee to avoid long detours to the existing crossings. The citizens' forum is discussing possible measures to improve road safety.
Another motion proposes the establishment of education and action weeks against anti-Semitism in Aachen. The applicants cite both everyday anti-Semitic incidents and a noticeable rise in anti-Semitic attitudes following Hamas' terrorist attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023 as the reason for this. The aim of the applicants is to send a clear signal against anti-Semitism through education, public events and educational work.
A citizens' petition from the eastern district addresses the issue of litter in the district. Among other things, the applicants propose multilingual information campaigns, information boards at known waste hotspots, events in daycare centers, schools and mosques, mobile information stands and mobile disposal points for bulky waste and electronic waste. They also advocate the abolition of bulky waste fees in hotspot areas. Disposal options should be created and residents should be more closely involved.
A citizens' petition from the old town suggests an adjustment to the special use regulations for outdoor catering. The aim is to provide guests with additional seating and thus reduce the use of disposable packaging, among other things. Outdoor catering could also contribute to the quality of life in the city center. The proposal is to make permits so flexible that areas can be dismantled at short notice if necessary - for example during major events.
All Aachen residents are cordially invited to attend the Citizens' Forum meeting and join in the discussions. Further information on the meeting and the items on the agenda can be found in the council information system for citizens at aachen.de.
