Start of the lecture series: Photovoltaics explained in an understandable way
Numerous changes are necessary to achieve Aachen's common goal of climate neutrality. One important lever is the energy transition. For this switch to renewable energies, the city of Aachen is promoting the expansion of solar systems on apartment buildings, among other things. But what should be considered when deciding on solar energy in general? And can solar energy also be shared with neighbors? In cooperation with the Solarenergie-Förderverein Deutschland e. V. (SFV), the City of Aachen is launching the lecture series "Photovoltaics explained in an understandable way", in which these and many other questions will be answered.
In view of rising energy costs and the need to replace fossil fuels and achieve energy independence from external factors, solar energy is increasingly coming into focus. Not only does it offer a climate-friendly way of generating electricity, it also pays off economically - for private households and companies alike.
With the lecture series, the City of Aachen and the SFV support interested citizens in making informed decisions by providing the necessary knowledge in an understandable and practical way. The SFV is a local expert that has been offering advice on renewable energies for almost 40 years and contributes its own practical experience directly to the events. Thanks to its close contact with users, the nationwide association knows the typical hurdles and questions and offers guidance where it is needed.
The lecture series comprises five events on different dates:
- Monday 03.11.2025: Electricity grid for the energy transition
- Wednesday 03.12.2025: PV and monument protection
- Wednesday 14.01.2026: How do I recognize a good solar offer?
- Monday 09.02.2026: Energy Sharing
- Monday 23.02.2026: Profitability of PV projects
The offer complements the City of Aachen's newly launched solar promotion program, which has been promoting the use of solar energy in apartment buildings and commercial properties of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs according to the EU definition) since October 2025. With this series of lectures, Aachen is also building on already successful projects to promote solar energy. These include the advisory initiative on photovoltaics on apartment buildings and the popular and award-winning "packsdrauf-Solarpartys". The aim is to impart sound knowledge, break down inhibitions and promote the energy transition together.
Participation in the lectures is free of charge, but registration is required via the following link: https://shorturl.at/dPQmK. The venue will be sent to you after registration.
