Solar subsidy program: Focus on apartment buildings and commercial properties
- The city of Aachen launches its new solar subsidy program.
- Funding is provided for the use of solar energy in apartment buildings and commercial properties of small and medium-sized enterprises.
- The second round of the "Öcher Solar Offensive" solar campaign starts with the new edition.
The expansion of solar installations plays a central role in achieving the city-wide goal of "climate-neutral Aachen". For this reason, the city of Aachen is specifically supporting the use of solar energy in apartment buildings and commercial properties of small and medium-sized enterprises (SME commercial properties) with the new edition of the funding program.
New funding focus
The new edition differs in its funding focus. The focus is no longer on detached and semi-detached houses, but on apartment buildings and SME commercial properties. In the area of apartment buildings, photovoltaic systems (PV systems) and electricity storage systems are subsidized for communal building supply or tenant electricity projects. The funding conditions here are 200 euros per completed kilowatt peak for PV systems (maximum 10,000 euros) and 100 euros per kilowatt hour of usable storage capacity for battery storage systems (maximum 5,000 euros).
In the commercial real estate sector, roof surveys are subsidized with up to 90 percent (maximum of EUR 4,000) and photovoltaic systems with EUR 100 per kilowatt peak (maximum of EUR 10,000).
There is a flat-rate subsidy of 50 euros for solar neighborhood festivals.
In order to shorten waiting times in the funding programme, the processing procedure has been intensively revised and digitized in recent months.
"Öcher Solar Offensive"
With the new edition, the city is also launching the second round of the "Öcher Solar Offensive" solar campaign. The goal of climate neutrality can only be achieved with the cooperation of Aachen's entire urban society. The campaign therefore informs interested communities and entrepreneurs about the city's support services and at the same time aims to motivate them to make their own contribution to local climate protection. Posters and other advertising material will soon be on display in Aachen.
In addition to the campaign, the City of Aachen, in cooperation with the Solarenergie-Förderverein Deutschland e. V., is launching the lecture series "Photovoltaics explained in an understandable way" for all interested parties on November 3.
"Climate-neutral Aachen 2030" target
With the adoption of the climate decision in 2022, the City Council of Aachen set itself the city-wide goal of becoming climate neutral by 2030. To implement an important building block on the path to climate neutrality, the existing Integrated Climate Protection Concept (IKSK) was rewritten for climate neutrality and adopted with the IKSK 2.0 in June 2024. The expansion and promotion of PV use in Aachen is an important part of this.
