Regiotram Aachen picks up speed - information market on December 2 in the depot
Preliminary planning for the Regiotram between Aachen, Würselen, Alsdorf and Baesweiler has begun. This marks another milestone for the pioneering mobility project.
The plans are not being made behind closed doors, but together with the people in the region. Citizens are expressly invited to contribute their ideas and questions at the "Infomarkt" dialog event on 2 December 2025 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the depot at Talstraße 2 in Aachen.
The event will be opened by Lord Mayor Dr. Michael Ziemons, City Councillor Dr. Tim Grüttemeier and Hans-Peter Geulen, Managing Director of Aachener Verkehrsverbund (AVV). This will be followed by an expert dialog on stage with insights into the current status of the project.
Info market and dialog round
Visitors can clarify their questions with experts at numerous information stands. The evening will conclude with an open dialog round with planners from the participating institutions and councillors from the municipalities involved - here, participants can contribute their suggestions directly. The aim of the event is to create transparency and shape the future of the Regiotram together.
Participation is free of charge; prior registration is not required.
Background
There is a lot of traffic on the roads between Aachen and the north of the StädteRegion every day - noise, congestion and polluted air are the consequences. The solution to this problem will be the Regiotram. In ten to fifteen years, it will run from Aachen Central Station via Elisenbrunnen, Würselen and Alsdorf to Baesweiler - reliably and emission-free. A feasibility study has already shown the Regiotram to be an economically and operationally viable project. The federal and state governments are funding further project planning with around 5.5 million euros.
