Regional economy and politics plan reconstruction of Ukraine
The Russian war of aggression in Ukraine has been raging for around 46 months. Nevertheless, many people are already preparing to rebuild the country and are planning future projects for infrastructure, energy supply or new technology solutions. What opportunities does this present for companies from the Aachen region? How can risks be hedged? And what role do existing partnerships between the Aachen region and Ukraine play? Answers to these questions will be provided at a joint information and networking event organized by the City of Aachen, Städteregion Aachen and the Aachen Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) on Tuesday, December 9, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Centre Charlemagne.
Under the title "Future Prospects Ukraine - First Steps to Market Exploration", entrepreneurs will be shown opportunities to become active in Ukraine. Reiner Perau, Managing Director of the German-Ukrainian Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Kiev, will provide current insights into the situation on the ground and highlight economic prospects. With his in-depth knowledge of the Ukrainian market and as a direct contact for German companies on the ground, he will provide first-hand information on which sectors are particularly in demand in Ukraine, what the current framework conditions are and where there are specific opportunities to enter the market. Matthias Koster, manager of the management consultancy PwC, will then present the current federal investment guarantees and explain their practical application based on initial projects in Ukraine.
"The reconstruction of Ukraine offers considerable potential for companies from our region," Michael F. Bayer, Managing Director of the Aachen Chamber of Industry and Commerce, is convinced. "We therefore support our members with sound advice and the strong network of the Chambers of Commerce Abroad. This event is the ideal starting point for an initial exploration of the market."
The event builds on the region's existing partnerships with Ukraine: The city of Aachen has been linked to the city of Chernihiv for years, while the city region maintains a partnership with the district of Lviv. "The partnership between Aachen and Chernihiv is more than just an example of solidarity: we want to actively help people and companies to overcome the challenges of reconstruction," says Aachen's Lord Mayor Dr. Michael Ziemons. "With this event, we want to encourage companies from our region to build economic bridges to Ukraine and thus make an important contribution to modernization and sustainable prospects for the local people."
City Councillor Tim Grüttemeier emphasizes the importance of economic cooperation: "The partnership with the district of Lviv in Ukraine is not just about charitable support. The aim is to contribute to the reconstruction, stabilization and future economic potential of a sovereign country and to create prospects for the local people."
The information and networking event is aimed at companies from all sectors who would like to find out about market opportunities in Ukraine and make initial contacts. After the specialist presentations, there will be an opportunity to exchange ideas with the speakers and representatives of the Ukrainian partner regions. Free registration is now possible via the website of the City of Aachen under Zukunftsperspektive Ukraine | Beteiligung NRW Stadt Aachen.
