City Council decides on specialist committees
On Wednesday, November 5, at its first meeting after the municipal elections on September 14, 2025, the city council determined the council committees and their chairs for the 19th electoral term.
The newly merged Main and Finance Committee has 15 members plus the Lord Mayor as Chairman.
In future, the CDU will chair the following seven committees via the voting members named in brackets:
- Planning Committee (17)
- Citizens' forum (15)
- Digitization Committee (15)
- Works Committee for Culture, Theater and VHS (17)
- Eurogress Works Committee (15)
- Personnel and Administration Committee (15)
- Election Audit Committee (15)
The Greens chair the following six committees. The number of voting members is shown in brackets:
- Mobility Committee (17)
- Committee for the Environment and Climate Protection (17)
- Sports Committee (15)
- Committee for School and Further Education (15)
- Audit Committee (15)
- Facility Management Committee (15)
In future, the SPD will chair three committees via the voting members named in brackets:
- Housing and Real Estate Committee (15)
- Aachen Municipal Works Committee (15)
- Committee on Labor, Economic Affairs, Science and Regional Development (15)
The Left Party will chair the Committee for Social Affairs and Demography (17) in future.
The members of the Children and Youth Committee will decide on the chairmanship at a later date.
Over the next few weeks, the parliamentary groups will determine which council members and expert citizens they will delegate to the committees.
