Tree maintenance work on Alter Heerler Weg
The tree maintenance team of Aachen's municipal services will be carrying out tree care work in the area of Alter Heerler Weg in Aachen-Horbach. A dead hornbeam and two bent willows will be felled. Dead wood will be removed from the numerous English oaks, some of which are over 100 years old. "We are taking care to change the established habitat structure as little as possible," says Yasemin Güster, foreman of the Aachen municipal tree inspection department. As oak wood is very stable, even dead branches with a diameter of ten centimetres or more can remain above the footpath, as they provide habitats for small animals and insects.
Following the maintenance work, the city's tree planting team will plant eight English oaks to maintain the character of the path.
The work is expected to be carried out from the second week of November; restrictions for walkers and cyclists will be kept to a minimum.
