Music project at the Königsberger Straße daycare center

Under the motto "Immerse yourself in the world of music", four and five-year-old children, together with the mascot "Ferdinand" the bear, transformed the Königsberger Straße daycare center into a world of sound. Three trainees on the practice-integrated educator training course at the Käthe Kollwitz School in Aachen, Laura Schleiden, Sabrina Spiertz and Larissa Allmanns, initiated the four-week project and accompanied the children.

The aim of the program was to strengthen musical education in the facility in the long term and to introduce the children to music holistically with all their senses. To this end, the trainees developed a varied, creative program for the children. The music project was all about cross-agency collaboration, as the three trainees work in different daycare centers and agencies.

Visit to the Aachen Symphony Orchestra

An unforgettable experience awaited the children right at the start of the project: they were allowed to attend a rehearsal of the Aachen Symphony Orchestra. The children watched the musicians' performances with wide-eyed amazement and then received a child-friendly introduction to the world of classical music from Darya Motebassem, music theater educator at Theater Aachen. The children were able to try their hand at playing instruments made from everyday materials - an ideal preparation for the annual seat cushion concert, which was also attended.

A music wall by children for children

Over the course of the project, the children learned about music in a variety of ways: for example, through musical picture books, sound stories, singing circles, an instrument memory and building their own drums out of tin cans. The heart of the project, however, was the construction of a music wall. With the support of donations from parents and local businesses, a unique sound object was created. The children helped with sanding, sawing and painting and were able to help decide which materials should be used and how they should be designed. Another highlight was a visit to the recording studio at Philipp-Neri-Haus, where the children were able to record their own song together - a lasting memory for everyone involved.

The entire project was only possible thanks to the great commitment of the individual teams at the KiTa, the manager Helge Gier and the practical instructor Gaby Esser-Wartenberg. A big party will be held to mark the official inauguration of the music wall.
