Local politics in the week from May 12 to 18

The next local political week is well filled with eight meetings. Among other things, four district councils will be meeting.

Tuesday, May 13

Starting at 5 p.m. in the administration building at Marschiertor (meeting room 170), the facility management committee will discuss the 2025 business plan and two status reports on the school and non-school repair program this year.

The Nature Conservation Advisory Board also meets at 5 p.m. in the administration building on Maria-Theresia-Allee (Campus meeting room). There are only two public items on the agenda here: a report by the chairman on cases of participation and the granting of an exemption from the prohibitions of the 1988 landscape plan of the City of Aachen for soil investigations at Varnenum in Kornelimünster.

Wednesday, May 14

The meeting of the Aachen-Brand district council will take place at 5 p.m. in the meeting room of the associated district office on Paul-Küpper-Platz. The safety of the crosswalk between Marktplatz and St. Donatus, improvements to the Aachen-Brand priority cycle route and measures at the Schagenstraße playground and football pitch will be discussed.

The operating committee for the Eurogress will meet from 5.30 pm in conference room three. The agenda includes the interim financial report for the fourth quarter of 2024, an adjustment to the guidelines for admission to the Öcher Bend and the current status of the "Eurogress Aachen" brand strategy.

At the same time, the Aachen-Laurensberg district council meets in the meeting room of the district office on Rathausstraße. Among other things, the district council deals with the noise pollution caused by the traffic situation on Schurzelter Straße, the "RS4 - Radschnellweg Euregio" and the development of the district in the Vaals border area.

The meeting of the Aachen-Haaren district council begins at 6 p.m. in the meeting room of the community center on Germanusstraße. A status report on potential areas as part of the Aachen-Haaren parking space concept will be discussed. The improvement of pedestrian safety at the Kochstraße/Bogenstraße/Kreuzstraße junction, at the GGS Am Haarbach/Tonbrennerstraße school entrance and at the Friedenstraße playground as well as the installation of e-scooter parking spaces will also be discussed.

The Aachen-Richterich district council also meets at 6 p.m. in Schloss Schönau (meeting room on the second floor). A status report on the renovation of the bridge on Horbacher Straße (L231), the "RS4 - Radschnellweg Euregio" and the hiking hub system in the district are on the agenda, for example.

Thursday, May 15

The meeting of the Mobility Committee from 5 p.m. in the Council Chamber of Aachen City Hall will bring the local political week to a close. Three of the topics: a new version of the City of Aachen's parking space regulations, the results of "Mobility in Germany 2023" for Aachen and a new road marking on Eupener Straße between Jahnplatz and Diepenbenden.
