District heating: Regionetz begins expansion on Pontstrasse

Next week, Regionetz will be taking the next major step in the expansion of its environmentally friendly district heating network. On Monday, May 5, 2025, civil engineering work will begin on Pontstrasse. This will involve a full closure of Pontstrasse to through traffic on the section between Hirschgraben/Pontdriesch and Ponttor. The planned detour will come into force at the same time.

Diversions and accessibility
Residential and public bus traffic will be routed via Wüllnerstraße, Malteserstraße and Friesenstraße for the duration of the closure. There are alternative bus stops on Malteserstrasse and Wüllnerstrasse, from which Pontstrasse can be easily reached on foot. Access for delivery traffic and deliveries to stores and facilities will remain possible up to the respective construction site. Depending on the progress of the construction work, access may also be possible via Seilgraben, Hirschgraben and Pontstraße.

The public parking lot at Pontdriesch and access to the RWTH institutes and the retail trade in this area are still guaranteed via Veltmanplatz, Hermannstraße and Bergdriesch.

In order to limit through traffic in Wüllnerstraße, large detour signs in the urban area indicate the changed traffic routing. Emergency access to the area is guaranteed at all times.
