The Statistical Yearbook 2023 is online

The Statistical Yearbooks of the City of Aachen provide an insight into the various facets of city life using well-founded figures. The Statistical Yearbook 2023 of the Statistics Office in the city's Department of Citizen Dialogue and Administrative Management is now also available online.
The figures published here illustrate the characteristic features of Aachen as a university city with a focus on technical degree courses, as a border city with Belgium and the Netherlands and as a traditional attraction for national and international visitors City life is reflected in various figures from the areas of employment, economy, administration, social affairs, health, education, culture, housing, mobility and the environment. Neighborhood-specific data also illustrates the special features of the individual districts.
In 2023, Aachen's population once again reached an all-time high. The number of inhabitants rose to 262,482. 178 new apartments were built this year, bringing the total number of apartments in the city to 142,750. Aachen has 220 students per 1,000 inhabitants, making it one of the top 10 German cities with the highest proportion of students in relation to the population. In addition to the seven local universities, the 72 schools, the adult education center and the city library are other important educational institutions in Aachen.
With 25,027 employees subject to social insurance contributions, the healthcare and social services sector was the economic sector with the highest number of employees. With 31.2 doctors in private practice per 10,000 inhabitants, the density of doctors is well above the average for a major German city.
