11th Aachen Spring Clean:
Working together for a clean city

  • Aachener Stadtbetrieb is once again organizing the popular municipal community event.
  • This year's Spring Cleaning Week runs from March 31 to April 5.
  • Groups and individuals can register now.

Working together for a clean city and taking responsibility for your own environment: This year, spring cleaning is once again taking place in the city of Aachen. In addition to keeping the city clean, the aim of the participatory campaign is to raise awareness of the fact that each individual should treat their own immediate surroundings and nature with care and also take responsibility for them. After all, carelessly discarded waste is a danger. It has far-reaching ecological and economic consequences. Once the waste is in the environment, it can release pollutants or break down into small pieces that are dangerous for flora and fauna on land and in water.

Lord Mayor Sibylle Keupen supports the city's spring clean: "I am delighted that the popular community campaign can take place again this year. I am sure that many Aachen residents will once again want to volunteer for our beautiful city to collect litter in the urban area. Working together in solidarity creates a strong urban society and each and every one of us can contribute to making our city and our nature safer, cleaner and more beautiful."

Aachener Stadtbetrieb is once again organizing the campaign. "Schools, day-care centres, clubs, companies, authorities, organizations and, of course, families and friends are called upon to take part," says Manuela Wolf, waste management officer at Aachener Stadtbetrieb.

What is new this year is that all groups can register for the spring cleaning week from March 31 to April 5, regardless of whether they are from daycare centers and schools or private groups such as clubs, companies or families. They are called upon to collect garbage from all public areas, meadows, playgrounds and parks. This means that participants can also take part close to where they live - throughout the entire city. Nature conservation areas are excluded. Due to the breeding seasons of birds and other animal species, no waste should be collected directly under bushes.

On Saturday, April 5, Aachener Stadtbetrieb is also offering an additional campaign at the Elisenbrunnen. Visitors can expect information on the topic of waste separation, painting activities for children and hands-on waste collection activities in the Elisenbrunnen rotunda from 10 am to 2 pm.

Registration

Participants and groups can now register using the form at www.aachen.de/fruehjahrsputz. Further information on spring cleaning is also summarized there.

Municipal waste bags, grippers and gloves (also for children) are provided free of charge by Aachener Stadtbetrieb. Schools and day-care centers that register for spring cleaning will be supplied with the necessary material by the municipal company at an agreed time. All other participants can obtain the equipment (after registering) from the district offices, the citizens' service or from Aachener Stadtbetrieb.

When registering, it is important that the location where the full bin bags are to be deposited is described precisely so that the collected waste can also be found by Aachener Stadtbetrieb. Important: Aachener Stadtbetrieb may only collect waste that is deposited on public streets.
