Celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Aachen-Mitte district council

The current Aachen-Mitte district council celebrated the 50th anniversary of the district council together with former members in the White Hall of the town hall. Numerous former members attended the event. Representatives of the first session included the then SPD parliamentary group chairman Heinrich C. Friedhoff and the first secretary Helmut Klein. District mayor Achim Ferrari recalled the special features of North Rhine-Westphalia's largest district council and why it is the only one to bear the designation B0. He also addressed the changing majorities and the associated culture of discussion. In his thanks to the former and active representatives, the district mayor expressly included the district council members from the outer districts. The district representatives in all districts invest a lot of time, and it is precisely this commitment that makes the city and its districts so worth living in.

Over the past 50 years, a number of well-known personalities have emerged from the Aachen-Mitte district council. These include, for example, the historian Prof. Max Kerner, the former NRW Minister for Urban Development Harry Voigtsberger, the State Secretary of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Achim Babendreyer and the current Vice President of the Federal Agency for Civic Education and first Muslim CDU member of parliament Cemile Giousouf.
