"Sport in the park": also a complete success in 2025
That's what you call a sure-fire success: in 2025, "Sport in the Park" in Aachen once again attracted around 15,000 Aacheners to 20 green spaces and parks throughout Aachen. Dancing and Zumba, yoga and Pilates, back fitness, HIIT workouts, rugby, skating, capoeira and running: More than 100 sessions per week - from Mondays to Sundays - attracted people to the large open-air "fitness studio". After six weeks, the organizers have drawn a thoroughly positive balance. Perhaps the most important thing: the weather? It was fair in 2025, as there were virtually no canceled classes over the entire distance.
"'Sport in the Park' was a complete success - we reached thousands of citizens and got them moving. This project has impressively demonstrated how sport not only benefits health, but also creates social unity. People laughed, sweated and motivated each other in our parks - a real sign of lively togetherness in our city. At the same time, it was a great opportunity for our sports clubs to showcase their wide range of activities. They - as well as many other providers - have once again demonstrated their enormous social commitment and put their heart and soul into the project," said Björn Jansen, President of the Stadtsportbund Aachen e. V., emphasizing its importance for society. "We are delighted to have once again put together such an attractive and varied exercise program together with the Stadtsportbund. 'Sport in the Park' gets people in Aachen moving in an uncomplicated and free way," Anna Maria Prümmer from the city's sports department is also convinced.
Suitable offers for all age groups
Stadtsportbund and the sports department took over the organization of the event at short notice last year. After a "small solution" last year, there was a "full version" in 2025. Theresa Hirtz, who was largely responsible for the organization at the Stadtsportbund, is delighted with the fruits of the work: "We are very pleased that 'Sport in the Park' was so diverse and wide-ranging this year. There were suitable activities for every age group and participants were able to try out numerous sports without any obligation. Activities such as swing line dancing, jump rope and acroyoga offered exciting insights and appealed to all age groups. It is particularly pleasing that 'Sport in the Park' motivated many people to sign up to sports clubs on a permanent basis and take part in sport regularly."
But the best sports project cannot get off the ground without financial support. That's why both Sparkasse Aachen and STAWAG were prepared to sponsor this project. Inga Konen from the Sparkasse's Sales Communication department explains the reasons for the commitment: "We are delighted that 'Sport in the Park' could be brought back to life with the support of Sparkasse Aachen, among others. The lively participation once again shows the success of the concept of offering outdoor sports for everyone and embodies the Sparkasse's public mission in the best possible way. We are already looking forward to 2026." Eva Wussing from STAWAG also knows why "Sport in the Park" deserves the support: "The Aachen region is close to our hearts. That's why we want to make a contribution to a city worth loving and living in," says the Head of "Communication and Brand". "'Sport in the Park' combines so many things: free and outdoors, getting and staying active together and volunteering. So it goes without saying that we are very happy to support this great project."
