Frozen waste garbage cans: organic waste cannot be emptied everywhere
In parts of the city, not all bins could be emptied completely during today's waste collection. The organic waste bins in particular are frozen, which means that the contents cannot be emptied or can only be partially emptied. Due to the persistently low temperatures in the past and coming days, it is unfortunately not possible to offer additional emptying. The municipal services request that, if possible, the bins are only put out in the morning shortly before the start of waste collection at 7 a.m. and that the contents of the bins are loosened beforehand - for example with a spade.
As a preventative measure, the municipal company recommends placing the organic waste containers in a frost-protected place, such as the cellar or garage, if possible. Crumpled newspaper or egg cartons at the bottom of the container absorb moisture from the waste. Moist waste can also be wrapped in newspaper.
However, hot water should not be poured over the frozen organic waste, as it cools down quickly in appropriate weather conditions and causes the contents of the container to freeze even more.
The collections that were canceled last week due to the weather will continue to be made up for.
