Important signal for Aachen as a business location:
City acquires central property in Rothe Erde

  • With this purchase, the city of Aachen is setting standards for sustainable urban production.
  • The 24,000 square meter area was once part of the Continental site.
  • Head of Economic Affairs Thomas Hissel: "We are thus offering companies in Aachen as a location for innovation tailor-made options and securing local jobs."

In times when available commercial space is becoming increasingly scarce, the city of Aachen is setting a strong and trend-setting example: With the successful acquisition of the Eisenbahnweg 50 property, the city has reached an important milestone for the long-term securing of commercial space and the active shaping of a future-oriented business location.

As part of the "Vision 2025+ model location for urban production" project, the city of Aachen is revitalizing the part of the former Continental site in Rothe Erde into an urban, sustainable, innovative and future-proof industrial area. The property acquired for the city by the Real Estate Management department plays a key role in implementing this vision. "With this acquisition, we are not only making an important contribution to securing commercial space, but are also actively shaping the framework conditions for the economic future of our city. Our aim is to provide companies in Aachen as a location for innovation with tailor-made options for relocation and expansion, thereby securing value creation and jobs in Aachen," says Thomas Hissel, Municipal Councillor for Housing, Social Affairs and Economic Affairs.

"The 24,000 square meter property in the heart of the Rothe-Erde industrial area, formerly part of the former Continental plant, offers hall and office space in various sizes. These spaces are available for rent and purchase with immediate effect," adds Dieter M. Begaß, Head of Economic Development for the City of Aachen. The location is characterized in particular by its excellent connections to public transport, the cycle network and the freeway.

Norbert Hermanns, founder of the Landmarken Group and seller of the property, with whom the city is in constructive contact, adds: "With the C-Werk, the Werkquartier Guter Freund and the Hutchinson site, we are already developing important building blocks here and are pleased about the city's commitment to the development of the quarter in Rothe Erde".
The sustainable development of the area, which is ideally integrated into the city center, is in line with the strategic goals of the city of Aachen and sends a clear signal. With its strategic focus on urban production and the targeted promotion of innovation and growth, Aachen is creating a future-proof basis for sustainable economic development.
