Bundestag election on February 23: Aachen is well prepared
Despite the short preparation time, the City of Aachen is well prepared for the Bundestag elections on Sunday. There is still a lot to do before the provisional election results are available on Sunday. "But all the helpers are motivated and committed to their work," says Yvonne Debald, Head of Elections. On election Sunday, almost 2,200 polling assistants will be working in the individual polling stations to ensure that voting runs smoothly in the 162 polling districts. Votes will be counted there and in the 71 postal voting districts from 6 p.m.
Each voter has two votes. The first vote decides the direct mandate for the constituency. In Aachen, eight direct candidates are standing for election. The second vote selects the state list of a party. There are 18 in North Rhine-Westphalia. 172,439 people are eligible to vote in Aachen. By midday on Friday, 61,273 of them had applied to vote by post.
You should take your polling card and identity card or passport with you to the polls on Sunday. However, it is also possible to vote without a polling card. In this case, however, you will have to prove your identity at your polling station with an ID card or passport.
As already reported, the election results from the individual voting districts will be presented to Mayor Sibylle Keupen, District Chief Electoral Officer for the City of Aachen, on Sunday, February 23, from 6 p.m. in the foyer of Aachen Town Hall. All interested citizens are invited to follow the proceedings. The results will be broadcast there on large monitors.
