Carnival 2025: Changed opening hours of the city administration
Between Fat Thursday and Veilchendienstag, Aachen City Council has changed its opening hours again this year. On Fat Thursday, February 27, consultation and service hours end at 10.30 am. Shrove Monday, March 3, is off duty; the city administration is closed. On Shrove Tuesday, March 4, the municipal service areas will be open as usual on a Tuesday.
The joint contact point of the police and the City of Aachen has changed opening hours on Fat Thursday and Shrove Monday. On February 27 and March 3, it will be open from 9 am to 5 pm. On all other days, the colleagues can be contacted on site during normal opening hours.
The following applies to the municipal museums: The Centre Charlemagne will be closed during Carnival week from February 27 to March 3. The Couven Museum, the International Newspaper Museum, the Ludwig Forum and the Suermondt-Ludwig Museum will also be closed on Fat Thursday, February 27, and on Carnival Sunday, March 2. On Carnival Friday, February 28, and Carnival Saturday, March 1, these museums will be open from 10 am to 5 pm. On Rose Monday, March 3, the museums will be closed on Monday as usual.
For bookworms who want to stock up on books in the libraries, the following opening hours apply for Carnival: The Central Library will be closed on Fat Thursday, February 27. If required, media can be returned via the outside returns desk in the Couvenstraße Central Library. The Depot district library will be open as an OpenLibrary on Fat Thursday, February 27, and will be closed on Rose Monday, March 3. The Haaren district library will also be closed on Shrove Monday, March 3. The book bus will not be making any stops from Fat Thursday, February 27, up to and including Shrove Tuesday, March 4. Open Sunday at the city library will be postponed from March 2 to March 9.
The Eilendorf recycling center will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Fat Thursday, February 27, but will be closed on Shrove Monday, March 3. The Brand recycling center will also be closed on Rose Monday. There will also be no compost containers on Rose Monday. On all other days, the recycling centers are open at regular times.
If you would like to go swimming on Carnival Monday, please note: The Elisabethhalle, the Brand indoor swimming pool and the Ulla-Klinger-Halle are open on Fat Thursday, February 27, from 6:30 am to 12:30 pm. These halls will be closed on Carnival Sunday and Rose Monday, March 3 and 4. The South Swimming Pool is open on Carnival Sunday between 9 am and 4 pm and is also closed on Fat Thursday and Rose Monday. On Friday, February 28 and Saturday, March 1, the municipal swimming pools will be open at their regular times. Schwimmhalle Ost is closed on Carnival Sunday and Rose Monday and is open as usual on the other days.
