For sure: Children's parade and Rose Monday parade in Aachen
- Due to the positive response, the children's costume parade and the Rose Monday parade follow the same route as last year.
- The route of the procession will be secured beyond the barriers of previous years and the city will set up additional stopping restrictions.
- The Department of Security and Order increases its presence during the parades.
On March 2 and 3, the traditional children's costume parade and the Rose Monday parade will pass through Aachen's city center. In light of the attacks in recent weeks, the administration, with the support of the council, has once again extended the precautions of the extensive and regularly updated security concept. "Although there can never be one hundred percent security, this further review and readjustment was necessary so that our carnivalists can celebrate in the usual way," emphasizes Annekathrin Grehling, Head of the Department of Public Order and City Director. For this reason, the Department of Safety and Order has also worked out the additional measures in the usual close coordination with the organizer of the children's costume and Rose Monday parade, the Aachen Carnival Committee, represented by President Frank Prömpeler.
Extended security concept
To ensure that all visitors and participants of the Aachen carnival parades on Sunday and Monday can continue to enjoy the "jecken Tage" without any worries, the City of Aachen will provide additional mobile restraint barriers to supplement the associated safety concept. The safety concept requires additional stopping bans, particularly in the Lothringerstrasse, Wilhelmstrasse, Theaterstrasse and Sandkaulstrasse.
APAG is therefore offering a "JeckenTarif" for the Eurogress multi-storey parking lot from February 26 up to and including Ash Wednesday, March 5. During this period, the 24-hour rate in the Eurogress parking garage will cost 7 euros for one day instead of the usual 12 euros.
The team of the central contact point for events in the Department of Safety and Order works hand in hand with the Department of Mobility and Traffic, Aachener Stadtbetrieb, the fire department, the police, ASEAG and the organizer to ensure that everything runs smoothly and keeps an eye on both the written concept and its implementation on the day of the event. In the run-up to the event, the stationary traffic control officers along the route of the procession and in the additional no-stopping zones will once again ensure that the events can take place.
During the parades, the colleagues from the Security and Order Department will have an increased presence. As usual, the coordination committee will meet again this year with representatives of all those involved in order to make the necessary decisions together, such as arranging further closures if necessary, coordinating the deployment of the medical service and then reopening the route of the procession. The safety of everyone - the participants in the procession and the people on the roadside - is the top priority for the administration, fire department, police, Aachen Carnival Festival Committee and the emergency services.
Restraint barriers, barrier material and no stopping signs
A large part of the preparations on the road will be carried out by Aachener Stadtbetrieb: around 300 barriers, stands and the corresponding poles as well as the additionally procured restraint barriers will be available on the company premises on Freunder Weg to secure the route of the procession. A large number of retractable no stopping signs have been pre-installed at recurring points, for example on Oppenhoffallee. 100 additional traffic signs will also be set up in the streets. In the coming days, the colleagues from the municipal services will distribute all of the material selectively in the city center. During the parades, there will be more than 100 road closures along the route to guide traffic around the parades. On the day of the event, the mobile restraint barriers will be used for the first time in addition to the vehicles of Aachener Stadtbetrieb, ASEAG, STAWAG and the organizer to protect the carnival procession, participants and visitors.
Today, one and a half weeks before the carnival parades, the preparatory planning is largely complete. Those responsible are looking forward to Tulip Sunday and Rose Monday, when they will once again be in action with many colleagues and will be able to welcome lots of carnival revellers to Aachen.
