The City of Aachen is focusing on participation and transparency: in the Committee for Science and Digitalization (Thursday, 13 February), the administration announced that citizen participation will be launched as part of the update of the digital strategy.

Interested citizens now have the opportunity to play an active role in the city's digital development. They can use an online questionnaire on the City of Aachen's participation portal at https://beteiligung.nrw.de/portal/aachen to assess the progress made in digitalization to date and provide impetus for future development.

With the digital strategy, the City of Aachen is pursuing the goal of further developing digital services for administration, infrastructure and social participation. Citizens' feedback plays a key role in creating needs-based solutions.

Foundation stone laid back in 2018
The City of Aachen already has a successful history in terms of digitalization and launched the "Digital Strategy for the City of Aachen" back in 2018 through collaboration between a wide range of departments. This laid a further foundation stone for the path towards digitalization, which was based on cooperation between the administration and members of Aachen City Council as well as the conscious participation of citizens in a public meeting in summer 2018.

As part of the ongoing development of the strategy, all employees of the City of Aachen as well as the members of Aachen City Council were encouraged to contribute new, innovative and potentially implementable ideas to be integrated into the update. In autumn 2019, the strategy was therefore revised again with new findings and confirmed by the city council in a public meeting in winter 2019.

The current update from 2023 is to be understood as a holistic approach that brings together administrative modernization and digital location development and ensures that the city of Aachen becomes more participatory, inclusive, sustainable, competitive and thus even more attractive. It is being developed in a multi-stage and participatory process that focuses on both the employees of the city administration on the one hand and the citizens and companies on the other.
