City Cycling 2025: Mayor welcomed the participants to the town hall
As part of the city's "FahrRad in Aachen" campaign, the city of Aachen once again took part in the Climate Alliance's nationwide "City Cycling" campaign from June 1 to 21, 2025. This time, 3,289 participants from Aachen covered 684,503 kilometers in 197 teams and thus ensured that 112,000 kilograms less carbon dioxide were blown into the atmosphere.
On Monday, 8 December, Mayor Dr. Michael Ziemons welcomed around 320 people who had taken part in city cycling in the Coronation Hall of the town hall. He said: "You have all demonstrated the power of our city with your participation in city cycling. Even though I didn't officially take part this year, I cycle to work as often as I can and therefore know what a strong signal your commitment sends out. Your commitment motivates us to continue to make Aachen a city in which the bicycle is a natural and equal part of the mobility transition."
In addition to the city of Aachen, 3,013 other municipalities took part in "City Cycling" in 2025. This year, Aachen is ranked 109th in the list of participating municipalities. The city of Aachen has been taking part in this campaign since 2009. Every year, Germany's most active cycling municipality is determined.
Schools
This year, 21 schools took part in the school cycling competition.
The following elementary school were the most successful: Grundschule am Lousberg 13,504 kilometers (km), Karl-Kuck-Schule (10,301 km) and Grundschule Hanbruch (4,864 km).
Among the secondary schools, the Vierte Gesamtschule covered 15,121 kilometers, the Gesamtschule Brand 9,694 kilometers, the Inda-Gymnasium 8,153 kilometers and the Viktoriaschule 4,811 kilometers.
Families
The groups "Pappelweiher & Friends" (4,063 km) and "Branderhof radelt" (2,940 km) stood out in the family category of the Aachen city cycling event.
Commitment/Districts
In the category Commitment/Districts, the Protestant parish of Kornelimünster/Zweifall ("KZWEI") achieved good results with 25,868 kilometers and the "Feierabendchor" with 2,850 kilometers.
Clubs/associations
The results of the association of ADFC, Radentscheid, Uni.Urban.Mobil and VCD with 15,003 kilometers and the Aachen section of the German Alpine Club (DAV) with 14,849 kilometers are also noteworthy.
Cycling
The cycling club (RSC) Schwalbe 08 Eilendorf e.V. cycled 7,888 kilometers, Team Radikal 1,147 kilometers.
Companies/companies
The active cyclists at Sparkasse Aachen covered 16,379 kilometers, while those at Johnsen & Johnsen MedTech (formerly Abiomed) cycled 13,595 kilometers .
Universities
The universities category included the Central University Administration of RWTH Aachen University (ZHV RWTH Aachen), which covered 6,048 kilometers, and the "Chaos Cyclists" group, which covered 5,091 kilometers.
Healthcare
The team from RWTH Aachen University Hospital covered an impressive 63,190 kilometers and that from Luisenhospital 3,385 kilometers.
Offices/administration
In the offices and administration category, the teams of the Aachen city administration are listed with 19,750 kilometers and the Stawag team with 8,161 kilometers.
FahrRad School Challenge competition
In addition, twelve secondary schools took part in the "FahrRad School Challenge" from the beginning of September to the end of November this year. There is a challenge cup and a bike service station to be won. The representatives of Einhard-Gymnasium were the most eager. They cycled 16,452 kilometers in the three months. This is the third time that Einhard-Gymnasium has won the trophy.
This year, the bike service station was awarded to Anne-Frank-Gymnasium after a prize draw. All schools that had covered more than 3,000 kilometers by bike took part in the prize draw.
Individual cyclist and City Cycling Star 2025
This time, the cyclist with the most kilometers cycled in City Cycling 2025 is Florian Klein. He covered around 3,386 kilometers on his bike in the three weeks of June.
The city cycling star of 2025 is Henry Vensey. He didn't see the inside of a car in the three weeks of June and covered 1768 kilometers on his bike. Vensey graduated from Inda-Gymnasium in June 2025 and is a passionate road cyclist. This year alone, he has already ridden over 33400 kilometers.
