Sports Committee: Grants for clubs and sporting events

At its last meeting of the year last week, the city's sports committee once again approved grants for sports equipment for Aachen clubs. The following applies to all grants: according to the sports funding guidelines, the grant amounts to 25 percent of the total costs and a maximum of 2,500 euros.

The table tennis department of SV Sportfreunde Aachen-Hörn 1948 e. V. has applied for a grant to purchase four of the club's own table tennis tables. The reason for this is the age-related wear and tear of some of the existing table tennis tables, which are only suitable for training and competition play to a limited extent. According to the offer, the total costs for the purchase of the four table tennis tables amount to EUR 4,200 and a subsidy of EUR 1,050.00.

The soccer department of VfL 1905 Aachen e. V. receives 636 euros for two youth soccer goals, which cost 2,544.01 euros. The reason for this is the growth in the club's youth teams. Depending on training times, there are regular bottlenecks. The youth soccer goals are currently no longer sufficient to enable all teams to train in a manner suitable for children and young people.

The soccer department of FV Vaalserquartiers e. V. is applying for a grant to purchase eight mini soccer goals. These are urgently needed for children's soccer. The total costs amount to 4,108.04 euros, the grant 1,027.01 euros.

The Fliegergruppe an der RWTH Aachen e. V. would like to procure its own rescue parachute. The training guidelines of the training organization recognized under aviation law (ATO) of the state association AEROCLUB | NRW e.V. stipulate the mandatory use of rescue parachutes for flight instructors and flight students during training. As rescue parachutes have a limited service life of 20 years, regular replacement is necessary. According to the quotation, the total cost of the rescue parachute is 2,223.52 euros. This results in a subsidy of 555.88 euros.

The soccer department of DJK FV Haaren 1912 e. V. has also applied for a grant to purchase mini soccer goals. These four goals are needed because there are not enough goalkeepers available at every training session and yet the goalkeepers still need to be trained in attacking. Four mini soccer goals for 2,014 euros result in a grant of 503.50 euros.

The Aachener Volleyball-Enthusiasten 1979 e. V. need beach volleyball net posts, as the old posts have been worn down by the sand and the weather. The club plans to replace the net posts itself. The posts cost 2,415 euros. The committee grants a subsidy of 603.75 euros.

The Aachener-Eishockey-Club 2013 e. V. has applied for a grant for 60 meters of mini boards. These are urgently needed to divide the ice surface into several areas for youth training and as obstacles during training and tournaments. At the moment, old wooden boards are still being used, but they cannot be brought onto the ice for every training session. They also pose a potential risk of injury. The 60 meters cost 4,500.58 euros and the subsidy amounts to 1,125.15 euros.

MLKampfsport Akademie e. V. and Verein Aachener Engel e. V. have applied for a grant to purchase a multifunctional wall with accessories. As part of a new cooperation with the child and adolescent psychiatry department at Aachen University Hospital, the clubs would like to equip a sports and exercise therapy room with suitable sports equipment. The multifunctional wall is used for sports education work with traumatized and socially disadvantaged children and young people. Total costs: 20,231.42 euros. This is where the regulation for the maximum funding amount comes into play and a grant of 2,500 euros was approved.

In addition, 1,500 euros each were approved as a grant for sporting events in 2026. According to the funding guidelines, sports events of supra-regional importance with a particular promotional impact for the city of Aachen can be funded annually within the scope of the available budget. At least one of the subsidized events should be a youth event, even if it does not have a particular promotional impact. In principle, no events will be funded that have already been funded in the two immediately preceding years, unless sufficient budget funds are available.

Aachener Kampfkunstverein e. V.: European Championship Hap Ki Do
The Aachener Kampfkunstverein e. V. is organizing an open European Championship of the International Hapkido Cooperation in Hap Ki Do in June 2026. TKV Oberforstbach 1896 e. V. will host the 2nd International Kaiser-Karl-Cup in the sport of sports acrobatics in May 2026. This sporting event is mainly attended by children and young people. The youngest athletes are five years old and there is no upper age limit, but there are usually few adult starters.

Reitverein Aachen e. V.: Vaulting tournament
The Reitverein Aachen e. V. is organizing a vaulting tournament in Aachen-Eilendorf in June 2026. It is one of the few clubs in the region to offer vaulting for numerous children, teenagers and young adults. In addition to the fun and sporting (performance) aspect, the focus is on promoting the values of trust, respect, responsibility, safety and community. In 2026, the tournament will be used in part as a qualifier for the Rhineland Championships, the five-country competition and/or the German Vaulting Cup.

RC Zugvogel 09 Aachen e. V.: Around the Cathedral and Town Hall
RC Zugvogel 09 Aachen e. V. is organizing the "Around the Cathedral and Town Hall" cycling race at the beginning of August 2026. The event, which has been held almost annually for decades, has established itself in Aachen and has become increasingly important in the cycling scene in recent years. Competitions from amateurs to professionals, but also for everyone and, for the past two years, also for "toddlers" take place. A total of around 350 participants take part in the various races, including an American women's professional team (U17) in 2025, which has triggered great media interest in the event. The event was last sponsored in 2017.

If one of these events does not take place, the following events will take their place in this order:

Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein e. V.: FEI World Championships Aachen 2026
The Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein e. V. will host the FEI World Championships Aachen 2026 on the club grounds in August 2026. Around 650 riders with around 800 horses and around 800 journalists are expected to attend the event. The association is expecting a total of around 500,000 visitors.

KKS Sparta Aachen e. V.: USC 5 - Fight Night Aachen
KKS Sparta Aachen e.V. is planning the USC 5 - Fight Night Aachen in the 100.5 Arena at the beginning of June 2026. This will be the fifth edition of the martial arts event, which includes disciplines such as MMA, boxing, kickboxing and K1. The event recently attracted over 2,000 spectators. It is organized entirely on a voluntary basis by club members. The fighters mainly come from the region, but are increasingly also competing against international opponents.

Centro Cultural Capoeira Siao e. V.: Capoeira Champions Kids
The Centro Cultural Capoeira Siao e. V. would like to organize the "Capoeira Champions Kids" event in July 2026 to celebrate its 25th anniversary. Capoeira, a Brazilian martial art with elements of dance, acrobatics and music, will be presented at the event in various age and performance categories. Workshops and taster courses for beginners as well as specialist lectures will also be offered. The 25th anniversary of the association will also be celebrated. The association intends to hold the event regularly in future.
