Local politics in the week from December 8 to 14

As the Christmas break approaches, the municipal political calendar is packed with 13 meetings next week.

Tuesday, December 9,
The meeting of the Culture, Theatre and VHS operating committee begins at 4.15 pm in room 207 of the administration building on Mozartstraße. The program 01/2026 of the Volkshochschule Aachen (VHS), the business plan for the VHS for the coming year and the business plan for the Kulturbetrieb for the coming year will be presented there.

The Sports Committee meets at 5 p.m. in the meeting room of Haus Löwenstein. The submission of a project outline for the "Franzstraße - construction of two gymnasiums and a daycare center" project as part of a federal program, an amendment to the City of Aachen's sports funding guidelines and an analysis of the economic situation of the city's swimming facilities in 2024 are on the agenda.

The Committee for the Environment and Climate Protection meets at 5 p.m. in the Council Chamber of Aachen City Hall. The committee will discuss the renaturation and opening up of water bodies in Aachen, the air quality in Aachen and the CO2 balance for 2024.

The meeting of the Committee for Schools and Further Education will also take place at 5 p.m. in room 207 of the administration building on Mozartstraße. A report on current school construction measures, the first pilot year of the language education program at open all-day schools (OGS) and a report on measures to prevent racism and violence in 2025 are three of the items on the agenda.

The Housing and Property Committee meets at 5 pm in meeting room 170 of the administration building at Marschiertor and discusses the City of Aachen's demographic concept.

Wednesday, December 10,
The Main and Finance Committee discusses the City of Aachen's waste and cemetery fees as well as scholarships for master craftsmen* in the city at its meeting at 5 p.m. in the Council Chamber.

The meeting of the Aachen-Kornelimünster/Walheim district council starts at 5 p.m. in the meeting room of the local district office on Schulberg. The district council will discuss the renovation work on Napoleonsberg, the development of the site for the new fire and rescue station 2 in Kornelimünster and a report on activities in the area of flood and heavy rainfall prevention in 2025.

The Aachen-Haaren district council meets from 6 p.m. in the meeting room of the community center on Germanusstraße. The district council will discuss an amendment to the street cleaning and fee statutes and the redesign of the building on Kaninsberg and the "Friedensplatz" as part of the Aachen-Haaren integrated urban development concept.

Thursday, December 11,
At its meeting at 10 a.m. in Haus Cadenbach on Weberstraße, the Seniors' Council will discuss the eastern inner city, the website of the Seniors' Council and reports from the districts as well as topics relevant to senior citizens from the committees.

The meeting of the planning committee begins at 5 p.m. in the council chamber. The committee will receive a status report from the administration on the law to accelerate housing construction and secure housing and will decide on the implementation of the "Friedensplatz" redesign. The politicians will also decide on the OGS extension and the canteen at the municipal Catholic elementary school Am Römerhof.

The presentation of the current responsibilities in the area of digitalization at the City of Aachen, the main IT infrastructure projects for the city administration and the demography concept: these are the topics of the meeting of the Committee for Digitalization at 5 p.m. in the Campus meeting room in the administration building on Maria-Theresia-Allee.

The operating committee for Aachener Stadtbetrieb will also meet at 5 pm in the meeting room of Aachener Stadtbetrieb on Madrider Ring. The committee discusses the 2026 fee requirement calculation for waste and cemetery fees as well as amendments to the waste management statutes.

The meeting of the Audit Committee will conclude the municipal policy week from 5 p.m. in the meeting room of Haus Löwenstein. Topics include the audit of the 2021 consolidated financial statements, the implementation of public procurement regulations from January 1, 2026 below the EU thresholds and a status report on the development of targets and key figures.
