Pilot project "Pop-up learning space Learn for Life" in rooms of the cultural sector
The pilot project "Pop-up learning space Learn for Life", a cooperation between the City of Aachen's cultural department and the Aachen-based company Bluebird, was successfully launched on July 15, 2025. The website https://aachenwasgeht.de/learnforlife/ offers learning spaces for students in a pilot project over the summer semester break.
This includes the library of the Suermondt-Ludwig-Museum during normal opening hours, the library of the International Newspaper Museum (IZM) during normal opening hours (with exceptions during events) and the library of the Ludwig Forum on the usual opening days from 10 am. "We are pleased to be able to offer students additional capacity in our museums with this offer, so that they can study in a relaxed manner and also arouse students' interest in the outstanding exhibits and the ambience of our museums in this way," says Heinrich Brötz, Alderman for Education, Youth and Culture of the City of Aachen.
"The offer has been well received so far and we are excited to see how it will develop by the end of the semester break," explains Pia vom Dorp, Head of Museum Services Aachen. By mid-August, a total of around 100 students had visited the libraries. The IZM, centrally located on Pontstraße, was particularly well attended. "This is initially a pilot project that will run until September 30, 2025. As the offer has been extremely well received, we will be happy to make the rooms available in the future and create additional space if necessary," emphasizes Irit Tirtey, Managing Director of the City of Aachen's cultural department.
