Aachen's youth get involved: Youth Forum on April 30
How do young Aacheners want to help shape their city? This is exactly what the first Youth Forum of the City of Aachen will be about on April 30, 2025 at 5 pm in Forum M, Buchkremerstraße 1-7, directly above Mayersche Buchhandlung. All young people in the city are invited to make their voices heard.
For the first time, the established citizens' forum is opening its doors for an extraordinary session especially for young people. In the heart of the city center, young people can discuss, debate and shape the future. The focus will be on concrete ideas developed by Aachen school students at the "Pimp My Future" workshop in November 2024.
Four strong proposals
More than 100 students from the 4th Aachen Comprehensive School, Einhard Grammar School, Heinrich Heine Comprehensive School and the Vocational College for Business and Administration of StädteRegion Aachen developed ideas on important sustainability issues in Aachen. Now it's time to get down to business: four selected proposals will make it to the Youth Forum and thus directly to the table of politicians and administrators.
The young people are calling for the modernization of sports facilities and longer lighting hours in order to create more exercise opportunities for young people. They are also campaigning for the introduction of a bicycle rental system at schools, which should be supplemented by additional repair services to promote sustainable mobility. Another concern is the installation of drinking fountains in the city center to provide a free water supply. In addition, climate-friendly waste management in schools and other educational institutions is being sought to promote responsible waste management.
Have your say instead of waiting
The Youth Forum is more than just a committee and a discussion group - it is an invitation to the next generation to help shape Aachen. The young people contribute their perspectives and meet decision-makers from politics and city administration. This is a place for serious listening, questioning and perhaps even laying the foundations for real change.
