New future room for the bioeconomy in the OecherLab
How can Aachen become a pioneer for sustainable business? Answers to this question can be found in the new Future Space in the OecherLab, which will be opened on Tuesday, April 29 under the title "The future grows back - sustainable management through bioeconomy". The focus is on innovative approaches for an economy based on renewable raw materials, closed material cycles and cooperation between science, companies and urban society.
The OecherLab and RWTHextern are hosting the RWTH Late Night to mark the opening ceremony. Andreas Jupke (RWTH Aachen University) and Marcel Gausmann (co-founder of the start-up re.solution) will be discussing new materials and the recycling of mixed textiles in a relaxed atmosphere. The event starts at 8 pm and admission is free. Music and drinks will be provided by the combo of the RWTH Big Band Aachen.
The exhibition in the OecherLab itself brings the topic of "bioeconomy" to life with local projects and hands-on research. For example, the Aachen-based start-up re.solution shows how discarded textiles can be transformed into new, high-quality materials using a chemical process. The Wood Research Center at FH Aachen will be demonstrating how bio-based building materials made from wood fibres are not only sustainable but also versatile. But visitors can also expect exhibits on the food industry, circularity in education and much more.
The Future Space will be accompanied by a varied program of events until at least October: workshops, information events, a monthly repair café and funding consultation hours for companies that want to put bioeconomic innovations into practice are planned.
